Despite another heartbreaking playoff exit on Sunday, there’s a strong case to be made that Allen deserved to go to the Super Bowl.
Josh Allen has consistently been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. In the 2023-24 playoffs, he led the Bills to a Wild Card victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round, he threw for 186 yards, rushed for 72, and accounted for two total touchdowns.
While Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs ultimately won on Sunday, it was not because Allen played poorly, but once again, the Bills fell victim to the Chiefs.
Unlike most quarterbacks, Allen isn’t just a passer—his combination of size (6’5”, 237 lbs), speed, makes him one of the hardest quarterbacks to defend.
During the regular season, he accounted for 44 total touchdowns (29 passing, 15 rushing), leading the league in total touchdowns for the second consecutive year.
The Bills’ dealt with major injuries on both sides of the ball, including key defensive players: Tre’Davious White, Matt Milano, and DaQuan Jones. The team also struggled with inconsistency early in the season, leading to the midseason firing of offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey.
Allen led the Bills to a 6-1 finish down the stretch. Also including an overtime win against the Chiefs in the regular season.
If football were purely about individual performance, Allen would already have a Super Bowl appearance—if not a ring.
While Josh Allen didn’t make the Super Bowl this season, he certainly deserved to be there.
The Bills remain a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
