On December 20th, Hickory High School hosted its highly anticipated Winter Extravaganza Pep Rally, a festive event that brought together students, teachers, and staff for a lively celebration of the holiday season. Organized by the Student Council Association (SCA) and led by Mrs. Sarver, the event was a whirlwind of holiday-themed performances, games, and school spirit, all set against the backdrop of the winter season. The pep rally, held during first and fourth blocks, was filled with fun and excitement, showcasing the incredible talents of students and fostering a sense of community at Hickory High.
The event kicked off with a beautiful and festive performance by the school chorus, led by Mr. Cowell. The chorus treated the audience to a series of Christmas carols and holiday songs that instantly put everyone in the holiday spirit. Their harmonious voices filled the auditorium, creating an atmosphere of warmth and joy, setting the perfect tone for the day’s celebrations.
Following the chorus, the Hickory Dance Troupe took the stage, showcasing their impressive choreography and energy. The troupe performed to an upbeat holiday song, energizing the crowd with their dazzling moves and synchronized routines. Their performance was a true testament to the hard work and dedication of the dancers, as they seamlessly blended school spirit with the holiday cheer of the season.
Next, the Public Speaking students, under the guidance of Mrs. Williams, added their unique twist to the festivities. They performed a creative and humorous rap to the tune of Tyler, The Creator’s “Sticky,” but with a holiday twist. The students reworked the lyrics to create “Gifty,” a catchy and funny rap that captured the playful spirit of the holidays. Their performance had the audience laughing and clapping along, and it was clear that the Public Speaking students had a blast bringing their holiday-themed rap to life.
The festivities continued with a performance from the Improv Club, who delighted the crowd with their quick wit and improvisational humor. The improv team performed a hilarious skit, leaving the audience in stitches with their clever jokes and spontaneous comedy. Their ability to make the crowd laugh without any preparation was a true testament to their talent and quick thinking.
Of course, no pep rally would be complete without some exciting games, and the SCA did not disappoint. They organized several fun and engaging activities for students to participate in. One of the highlights was a game where participants had a box taped to their backs, with six bells inside. The goal was for the students to shake the bells out by moving around, creating a fun and entertaining spectacle as they tried to complete the task as quickly as possible.
Another fan-favorite game was Hickory Feud, a holiday-themed take on the classic Family Feud. In this competition, juniors and seniors faced off against each other, as did the freshmen and sophomores. The teams answered questions about the holiday season, school life, and various fun facts, all while trying to outwit each other in a battle of knowledge and quick thinking. The friendly competition added an extra layer of excitement to the pep rally, with students cheering for their respective classes and enjoying the spirited atmosphere.
In another memorable game, students participated in a relay race, where they had to pull each other in sleighs up and down the aisles of the auditorium. This event was a fun, lighthearted challenge that had everyone laughing and working together as they raced to finish the course as quickly as possible. The relay race was a fantastic way to bring students together and engage them in some friendly competition while spreading holiday cheer.
To cap off the event, the SCA organized a Christmas dance. The students danced to festive tunes, celebrating the season with high energy and plenty of school spirit. The dance allowed everyone to let loose and enjoy the holiday season in a fun, carefree way, leaving everyone with a smile on their face as the pep rally came to a close.
