This season, the Hawks have soared—not just on the scoreboard, but in leadership, teamwork, and determination. Under the guidance of JV Coach Sykes and Varsity Coach Brown, both teams have worked hard to build stronger bonds, embrace challenges, and take pride in their progress.
For JV Coach Sykes, this season has been all about progress and selflessness.
“Many players in their first major roles are stepping up and getting better every day,” Sykes said, “Some returning players even changed positions entirely to help the team succeed.”
Hawks players have embraced new roles, taken on leadership responsibilities, and discovered that helping their team on and off the field can be just as rewarding as scoring touchdowns.
Energy and pride have defined the JV Hawks’ season.
“No matter the score, the sidelines are full of energy,” Sykes said. “They bring the noise for their teammates in a respectful way, which can be tough for young athletes to do.”
At the start of the year, both teams set clear goals. Varsity, under Coach Brown, focused on consistent execution and leadership, aiming for a playoff run. JV players set weekly goals around growth, discipline, and character, with freshmen encouraged to lead by example early in their high school careers.
Coach Sykes highlighted his JV captains for their strong, vocal leadership. These players motivate their teammates even before the coaches speak, setting the tone for the team.
“A big part of football is never getting too high or too low before, during, or after the game,” he said. “The sport is about eleven players working as one unit, executing consistently.”
As the season winds down, varsity is still chasing a playoff spot, while JV looks to finish strong after a season of steady improvement.
Coach Sykes shared advice for future Hawks: “Just show up and give it your best effort. No matter how nervous you are or what your skill level is, nothing will happen until you decide to show up with a positive mindset and work hard.”
This season, the Hawks have proven that football is more than wins and losses—it’s about growth, teamwork, and showing up for each other every single day.
